Coaching of school groups.
Toward the end of Winter 2001 the club coached two school groups who were taking archery as a physical education option.
The first group consisted ten pupils from a local College. They very quickly learnt the safety rules and basics of shooting and were soon spending the whole of each coaching session on the line practicing their shooting.
The competitive spirit quickly showed through and there was some promising talent amongst them. They were keen to move back to shoot from a longer distance once they had confidence in their shooting ability. At the end of each session they had a shoot-off for a voucher, the bearer being entitled to a gastronomic delight from one of the local junk food outlets.
Their greatest achievement was to have every arrow in the shoot-off score from 40 yards.
The following is a selection of photographs of the College Group:

Twenty lively Intermediate school students. Now there is something designed to keep a coach on their toes!
The intermediate students were put through a similar course to that of the College group. There was plenty of enthusiasm amongst them, and, just as in the older group of students, there were those who quickly developed a good level of competence and would almost certainly do well should they decide to take up the sport.Because the physical strength of this age group was less than that of the older students they were kept on a shooting line much closer to the targets. There were requests from some to move back further but these were declined because, even at the closer distance, the need to look for "lost" arrows was slowing down the number of times that they could shoot during a session.
The following is a selection of pictures taken during the course and if you look carefully you may notice that there appear to be some very mature "students" on the shooting line.
